The Software Tester is responsible for inspecting, testing, and reviewing products or systems to meet all customer requirements and standards. This is a multi-faceted position that works closely with consultants, end-users, and developers, providing hands-on support in checking or testing systems, as well as working independently on projects when necessary.
Roles and Responsibilities:
General Roles:
- Working alone or with a team, with or without the assistance of the developers.
- Participate in product design reviews to provide input on functional requirements, product designs, schedules, or potential problems.
- Involves thorough testing of products and approves the quality of the products or systems created or procured by the company to ensure they meet all customer requirements per industry standards.
- Ensures that a test event is well defined, planned, and executed. The QA does this by ensuring that every phase and feature of the software solution is tested and that any potential issue is identified and fixed before production.
- Responsible for the entire and thorough testing as new features are added, a test based on requirements and functionality. Re-test the system after fixes or modifications have been made to avoid recurring issues before deployment of the new updates.
Testing Procedures:
- Design test plans, scenarios, scripts, or procedures to identify software problems and their causes
- Develop or specify standards, methods, or procedures to determine product quality or release readiness.
- Identify program deviance from standards and suggest modifications to ensure compliance.
- Identify any potential quality issues uncovered and escalate potential quality issues immediately to the Systems QA Manager.
- Conduct historical analyses of test results and monitor program performance to ensure efficient and problem-free operations.
- Install, maintain, or use software testing programs.
- Install and configure recreations of software production environments to allow testing of software performance.
- Conduct software compatibility tests with programs, hardware, operating systems, or network environments.
Support:
- Provide feedback and recommendations to developers on software usability and functionality.
- Investigate customer problems referred by technical support.
- Collaborate with field staff or customers to evaluate or diagnose problems and recommend possible solutions.
- Coordinate user or third-party testing.
Documentation:
- Document software defects, using a bug tracking system, and report defects to software developers.
- Review software documentation to ensure technical accuracy, compliance, or completeness, or to mitigate risks.
- Assist in the preparation of manuals that will help and train users for the procedural requirements of software and its automated systems.
Process Improvements:
- Stay up to date with new testing tools and test strategies.
- Evaluate or recommend software for testing or bug tracking.
- Design or develop automated testing tools.
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, BSBA Major in Financial Management, Accounting and Finance courses or any related field
- Has a payroll/accounting and ERP background is preferred.
- Excellent complex problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Solid troubleshooting and communication skills.
- Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking abilities.
- Sufficient experience testing, delivery, and maintenance of at least 3 product/system
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process
- With basic to advanced programming skills such as understanding SQL database and Scripting
- Experience with automated testing tools is preferred but not required.
